MCT board update

By Russell Steele

MORTON Club Together can this evening announce changes to its board.

Former chairman David McCluskey is returning as a director, while David Whitton becomes an associate director. The pair have been co-opted to the roles as Chic Kavanagh stands down.

Chic joined the board last year but has had to resign due to increased work commitments, which left him unable to continue meeting the demands of the position.

Chic explained: "A change to my work circumstances means it would be impossible for me to do the day-to-day job of MCT director justice. It would also have meant I would be unable to attend board and other important meetings, so unfortunately I have no option but to step aside.

"I am glad I stepped in when I did last year to try and do my bit to help MCT move the club forward. I wish everyone at MCT well and it goes without saying I will continue to support the club in any way I can, but it will have to be on my days off from now on."

As Chic stands down, we are pleased that we have been able to add two individuals who have lots of experience in different capacities with MCT.

David McCluskey, who had previously served as the organisation's chairman after being elected, said: "I was previously voted onto the board in September 2022 by the MCT members and later in 2023, I became the chair of the board. During my time on the board, I was involved with reviewing the Youth Academy and helped to set up the apprenticeships in July 2023.

"After stepping away for personal and work commitments last March, my working pattern has changed which has allowed me to offer more time to MCT again. Due to this I contacted the MCT board and advised that I was happy to help with the Operations Team.

"I was then asked by the MCT board if I would be interested in taking up a place on the board again by being co-opted to help. I happily accepted and understand that I will be required to stand for election, if I wish to remain on the board, at the next AGM."

New associate director David Whitton has been working for some time on a number of key projects as part of the Ops Team. In addition to continuing in that capacity he will now be providing support and guidance to the board as well.

He said: "For the past two years I have been helping Morton as a volunteer on matchdays, and when the MCT Operational Teams were set up it was the perfect way for me to get involved.

"Over the past six months seeing the effort and passion that goes in to making MCT run, and the dedication of the board members and other Ops Team members, blew me away.

"A strong and effective MCT will be crucial to keeping Morton a strong, debt-free community owned club.

"With a background in Operations Management over two decades and more recently in IT and project delivery/change management, I am looking forward to playing my part in MCT going from strength to strength."

MCT co-chair George Wall added: "We are delighted to co-opt David McCluskey onto the board and David Whitton as an associate. They will be great assets to the team.

"We are of course sorry to see Chic standing down but we understand that his new working commitments would leave him unable to continue serving as such an active board member."

In line with MCT's Articles of Association, co-opted directors are required to stand for election at the next annual general meeting, which will take place later this year.

Ronnie Millar also previously resigned as an MCT director earlier this year due to health reasons and as always we would encourage any member who feels they have something to offer - and could give up their time to take an active role within the organisation - to come forward at any time.
