Morton Club Together director, Chris Samson, has confirmed he won't be seeking re-election to the MCT board at the 2023 AGM in September.
Chris has volunteered with MCT since launch day and was voted onto the board of directors at the 2021 AGM.
"I've absolutely loved being a part of Morton Club Together.
"I looked back on my emails the other day and I don't think when I emailed Graham McLennan on launch day saying "really promising initiative, I'm really interested to see where it goes" did I actually think it'd lead to MCT taking ownership of the club a mere two years later. We've come a long way in a very short space of time, but the club is now in the hands of people who care about it greatly and will do whatever it takes to make it sustainable and successful.
"There's still a lot that could be done though. The daily challenges are unlikely to die down, that's not how football works. My biggest aim when I decided to help out was to use my expertise to see what we could do to improve the marketing, social media and communications side of the club, and I hope members and Morton fans see that it's night and day from where it was before MCT took over. There's still a long way to go in my eyes, but the improvement has been huge already.
"The timing is right for me to step aside, I've just become a father and working for a recently relegated English football club means I should probably focus on those things, rather than spending every waking moment of my days thinking about how we could improve things at Cappielow! Living 400 miles away hasn't been all plain sailing but it has been made easier with the likes of Zoom and everyone being accommodating of that.
"I'll absolutely be back one day in some capacity."
With Chris' upcoming departure it now means that there is a lack of marketing and communications expertise within MCT. We would particularly like to encourage anyone with experience in this field to put themselves forward to either join the board at this year's AGM, or to work closely with the board on all things marcomms.
This news, plus Graham McLennan stepping back earlier this year, means that there will be at least two spaces to be filled on the MCT board at the September AGM.
MCT is an inclusive organisation, committed to breaking down barriers. We would like to encourage notes of interest and future applications from members of all backgrounds, regardless of age, gender, gender identity, ethnicity, religion, beliefs, disability or social background.
