Needy youngsters helped by MCT charity donation

By Russell Steele

KIND Morton Club Together members have helped deliver an early Christmas present for local youngsters facing hardship.

The Children in Poverty Inverclyde charity has received a cheque for over £300 from MCT following the recent blue and white birthday bash which was held to help celebrate Morton's 150th anniversary.

Held in Buckley's at The Chartroom at Inverkip Marina, the event proved a huge success as over 100 guests enjoyed a terrific evening of entertainment.

They were joined on the night by a whole host of ex-Ton stars, including Chris Millar as the MC, plus former Cappielow favourites Billy Osborne, John McMaster, Joe McLaughlin, Derek Collins, David MacGregor and Jim McAlister, who all spoke fondly about their Morton memories.

It had been agreed that any funds raised on the night would be donated to CIPI - and thanks to the generosity of those who bought tickets, the sum of £305 was gathered. MCT would like to thank everyone who contributed to such a worthwhile local cause.

Associate director Stuart Duncan recently met the charity's Seamus Lamb to hand over the cheque. A grateful Seamus thanked him for the contribution, which will be put to good use by CIPI to help youngsters in need across the area.

Sadly, official figures released earlier this year show that more than a quarter of all children in the district - 26.1 per cent - were classed as living in poverty in 2022/23. MCT is pleased to support the work of CIPI in tackling this very serious problem.
